Autumn Show

England’s Green and Pleasant Land, well, it’s not so green at the moment, the grass isn’t actually green it’s a dirty yellow, my flowers are not flowering and half my veg in the veg plots is dead!  It’s actually raining as I write, we need it so much, such a lovely sound and the refreshing smell wafting through the window is just so nice.  Nature is so clever, when I look the grass is slowly turning green just after a little rain.

One of the things I enjoy are the petals that float as the dahlias waft in the breeze, not so this year, they obviously need more water than my washing up bowl can deliver.  After our Annual Show last September I was determined to plant more, the displays at the show were just glorious, I was so inspired.  I ordered my bulbs, followed all the planting instructions, no mention of drought conditions and how the poor things would cope.

As we planned for the Autumn Exhibition it was hoped that yours gardens have faired better, we were not disappointed, the array of fresh produce and flowers were a delight to see.  As the entries began to arrive it was amazing how full the village hall became, and  the abundance of entries.  The cookery section was bursting with cakes and breads, I felt for the judge having to try 13 different courgette cakes, with jams etc for dessert.  As a new member to the committee I hadn’t realised the volume of work that goes into the organising of the show, a team that works well to put the show together.  Congratulations to all the entrants, winners, helpers, refreshment makers and those who visited the show.

Please save the date of the winter show in your diaries, it’s the 19th November, check out our website for further information
